You are a 27 year old semi-pro soccer player in England and have recently been caught doping during a game. The national board has decided to give you a 5 year ban from the sport.

The rule 5 draft is a rule established by Major League Baseball in order to allow players the opportunity to succeed on a major league team as early as possible. The 40-man roster is each team’s list of players that are eligible to play for their major league squad, and players are often promoted or demoted off of the list. If players are not currently on a major league team’s 40-man roster by their 5th year of time with the team, they are made eligible for that year’s rule 5 draft. When a player is drafted, they are put on the 40-man roster of the team drafting them, and will remain part of that team as long as they stay on the 40-man roster or until their contract expires. If a player is taken off the 40-man roster of the team that drafted them, they are returned to the team that they were taken from.

The NHL has a similar minor league system to the MLB where teams develop their players over a period of years. Currently, NHL teams  sign up to 50 contracts with players, with the majority not being placed on the active roster. An NHL team’s active roster has 26 spots.

AFCON is a major football tournament set in Africa, considered the continent’s toughest international competition.This year,  AFCON was mired in controversy, as the host nation Morocco faced accusations of favoritism and corruption throughout their run to the finals. Allegations of misconduct continued during the finals, with the other team in the final Senegal marching off the pitch in protest against what they perceived as unfair refereeing. After a period of internal talks, the Senegalese team was convinced to resume the game by their goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, eventually winning in overtime. Recently, months after this game was played, the Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Appeal Board overturned the results of the match, turning the result into a 3-0 victory for Morocco, ruling that leaving the field counts as an automatic forfeit. 

Morocco is set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with Spain and Portugal.
